Meet the Band

Georgia
Lead Vocals
Hello! My musical journey spans many genres and projects, beginning at the young age of 10 when I received my first instrument. Throughout my school years, I frequently performed in musical theatre and events, but my true passion has always been in song writing. I strive to create music that resonates with people’s emotions, and I continue to do so to this day. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of performing with a big band, collaborating with Simon on the keyboards for nearly a decade, and covering many events from weddings and festivals to Christmas sets. My vocal style adapts to the music at hand; I aim to deliver a performance that best fits each song, whether it involves belting out powerful numbers or using a softer tone for more delicate pieces. I’m incredibly excited about Soul of Georgia! This project not only allows me to explore a completely new genre but also gives me the opportunity to collaborate with talented musicians who bring exceptional skills to the group. I can’t wait to share what Soul of Georgia is all about with the world!

Simon
Keyboard, Backing Vocals
I first performed with local bands at the age of 15. Since then, I have been involved in many musical projects in the UK, Australia, Ireland, and Georgia, USA. I'm a fan of soul, country, gospel, funk, blues, Latin, R&B and jazz music. My influences include Jimmy Smith, Keith Jarrett, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Bill Evans, among others. I love American music and I'm thrilled to be collaborating with a set of talented musicians in Soul of Georgia, delivering an authentic American sound to audiences in the South West.

Phil 'Fingers'
Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals
When asked about my musical collaborations, I proudly mention names like Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Fairport Convention and many others, all thanks to my extensive record collection which I play along to. I’ve skillfully sidestepped fame and fortune in the music industry, despite being supported by Zak Starkey, performing at the Marquee, and recording in the same studio as legends like Nick Drake, John Martyn and Pink Floyd. I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting some of my favourite bass players, such as Dave Pegg (Jethro Tull), Hutch Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt), Richard Sinclair (Camel), Martin Turner (Wishbone Ash), and Jerry Scheff (Elvis Presley). My journey with the bass guitar spans longer than I care to admit, and my passion for the instrument led me to launch a retail business called Bass Gear Limited, specialising in everything related to... you guessed it, bass! After a successful eight-year run, I decided to leave my day job behind, granting me more time to indulge in playing music, attending gigs and festivals and proudly sporting my loud t-shirts.

Kevin
Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals
Kevin Thomas has been part of various bands since 1973, steadily building his presence in the music scene. Drawing inspiration from 1960s blues and soul, as well as the 1970s American west coast sound, he plays both electric and acoustic guitars, including slide guitar and lap steel.

Dil
Drums
I began my drumming journey at the age of 15, initially inspired by Ian Paice from Deep Purple and later by the punk rock scene. In Cornwall I played in several bands, including a punk band called Dogbite and a punk funk group named Bridesmother, which enjoyed a fair amount of success. After leaving Cornwall, I formed a covers band called Peach Fuzz, playing funk and rock music. This eventually led to two offshoot bands: Caen, which performed original post-grunge and rock, and Clud, a fun side project focusing on rock. Simultaneously, I was part of a covers band called The Roadrunners, entertaining at weddings, pubs and other venues. I later joined a punk/hardcore band called Reeko, performing in Exeter and touring across England and Wales, even making it to Japan. We released four albums before evolving into a three-piece called Hoof, which also produced an album. After taking a few years off, I joined the Tom Ewings band, but only managed to play two shows before moving on to Soul of Georgia. Despite being a bit of a metalhead, I have always had a fondness for soul music, artists like Mark Flanagan and Nick Cave, and classics such as Nina Simone and Otis Redding. I'm eager to get back on stage, gigging and making people dance!
